Learning self defense can be important for women that are often on the streets by themselves and want to know how to defend themselves, even if they already carry pepper spray or a stun gun. Mixed lessons that incorporate videos to show students moves and then let the students practice the moves on each other is a great way to learn self defense. Martial arts classes such as karate, jujitsu, ninjitsu, hapkido, and kickboxing are available for both men and women at various schools. Tuition may include the price for the training and supplies that will be used throughout the semester. You may want to learn about the trainer and their background to see if you are comfortable learning their tips and moves. You will find that some techniques may use weapons while others will use nothing but your own body parts. Find out what type of training you will be given and the type of tactics you'll learn throughout the class to see if it is something you're looking for. Martial arts classes will differ depending on if you're learning karate or kickboxing and the instructor that teaches the class. Look for reviews online or ask friends that have taken a self defense class to see if there is one local place that seems to have better reviews than others. Compare prices with the class to decide where the better value is and what can fit within your budget. Just because one location charges less than other doesn't mean you will not learn as much as a more expensive school.
